IMAC Mission
|
IMAC was formed in 2003 by individuals from a variety of professions and interests to
encourage the use of cam therapies in our region.
- IMAC promotes the wholeness of mind, body, and spirit for persons who suffer from
acute and chronic illness.
- We recognize the benefits of these alternative and complementary therapies for
healthy individuals who want to learn more about wellness and healthy living.
- We believe that CAM therapies can improve and enhance the quality of life for
everyone.

IMAC Purpose
The IMAC is a resource for public awareness and education. We encourage the use of
CAM therapies with modern mainstream medicine by blending ancient
healing arts with the latest technological and scientific treatment to improve lives.
Our goal is to work with mainstream medical practitioners as well as alternative and
complementary practitioners to educate and disseminate information about CAM therapies.
We want our area residents to know about the best health and wellness care that is
available to them here in the region. We want area residents to be informed consumers
of health services. We want them to understand that it is all right to question prescribed
treatment, to learn about what alternative treatments might also be available.
We want to establish a dialogue between mainstream practitioners and those who provide
complementary and alternative treatments to build relationships, that in turn provide
the best overall care to patients.
With information, you can make informed, intelligent, decisions about your health and
well being and the appropriate use of CAM interventions.
Although each therapy and treatment system is unique, the major CAM systems have many
common characteristics including a focus on individualizing treatments, treating the
whole person, promoting self-care and self-healing, and recognizing the spiritual nature
of each individual. In addition, many CAM systems have characteristics commonly found
in mainstream health care such as a focus on good nutrition and preventive practices.
Unlike mainstream medicine CAM often lacks or has only limited experimental and clinical
study; however, scientific investigation of CAM is beginning to address this knowledge
gap. Thus, boundaries between CAM and mainstream medicine, as well as among different
CAM systems, are often blurred and are constantly changing.
